A talk with The British Oak Barista
True North Coffee Week is right around the corner which means that from April 29th to May 5th, we’ll be going coffee crazy here at The British Oak. In addition to our regular line up of classic cups of caffeinated goodness, customers will be able to get a coffee of their choice and a freshly-baked cinnamon bun for just £3.95.
To celebrate Coffee Week, we’ve spoken to our resident barista, Jake Helliwell, to give you an inside look at what to expect and his thoughts on what makes a great cup of coffee.
How long have you been with The British Oak?
“I’ve been working with the company for around nine weeks and I’m having so much fun! The team are great and I’ve already been dubbed the in-house barista which is fine with me because I love coffee.”
What is your favourite coffee to make?
"If I had to choose just one, I'd say a Latte is my favourite type of coffee to make. It requires a delicate touch and you get to be creative at the end when creating the foam pattern"
What’s your favourite coffee to drink?
“It depends what mood I’m in and what time of day it is but if I get the chance, I love a good Irish coffee. You get the amazing taste of a quality coffee blend with an extra kick.”
What do you think makes a good coffee?
“Personally, I think it’s all in the milk when it comes to making a good coffee. If you make sure you get the temperature and the consistency just right, you’ll make a great cup every time!”
How do you make sure you keep your coffee skills sharp?
“Luckily, I worth with a great team who trained me up but I’ve been told I have a good eye for detail when it comes to brewing coffee. I also watch a lot of barista videos online to pick up new tips and tricks.”
Don’t forget to come down and join us for Coffee Week this year and try one of our delicious coffees using our signature True North blend.
